So earlier today i had my fashion history class, and my teacher showed us this documentary of Isaac Mizrahi during his reign on fashion in 1994. It included behind the scene footage of supermodels Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Linda Evangelista and Cindy Crawford. The film was shot in black in white, and showed Isaac create a new collection, in which the previous got terrible reviews.

Chanel withdrew its financing of his business and his empire collapsed……..i asked my teacher why this happened, and she brought up Calvin Klein. During the early 90′s, american fashion was ruled by Calvin Klein’s influence of simple, classic garments, of a white, black & grey palette. For example the little white dress worn by Alicia Silverstone in “Clueless” in 1995.

実際この３年後に彼は沈んだ。シャネルが彼のファイナンスから手を引いて帝国は崩れた。先生に何故そうなったのかを訪ねたら、カルバンクラインを取り上げだした。９０年代初期、アメリカのファッション業界はカルバンクラインのような白、黒、グレーのシンプルな素材のデザインが主になった。アリシア・シルバーストーンが映画「クルーレス」で着たような白のドレスが良い例。

That was the trend, and what sold at the time……..so here comes Issac Mizrahi with a collection so left field and different, the american buyers just didnt comprehend his vision, and his business lacked in sales….
それが当時のトレンドになり売れていた。なのでアイザックのような変わったコレクションはアメリカのバイヤーには受けず、全く売れなくなってしまったのであったとさ。。
